However, the interviewees expressed concern about the social pressures and consequences they could face if they flouted their local social norms. They were worried that their native friends might view them as "foreignersand consider them unintelligent. This concern was similar to those voiced by Brown (2013) and Ishihara (2009).

These findings suggest that native-speaker pragmatic norms are no longer the default preference of Korean learners. They may still be useful for official Korean proficiency tests. Future researchers should reconsider the validity of these tests in various cultural contexts and specific situations. This will enable them to better comprehend how different environments can affect the pragmatic behavior of learners in the classroom and beyond.
