volkswagon-logo.jpgHow to Replace an audi key replacement G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician teaches you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located near the edges of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a message to the ECU through a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU uses this information to control boost and fuel. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can start spark and injectors in the right way.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jumped chain link in the upper chain of timing. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit challenging since there are two pins for the connector and they have different functions however the best method to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is fully operational, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. If you're having issues with this sensor, look for evidence of oil or audi keys replacement cost a3 key - atavi.com, coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at a high speed I noticed a significant decrease in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked with gasoline and the 4th was dry. When i crank the engine without sparks, I put a piece of tissue on top of each injector hole, the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th stays shut. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I got zero ohm. So i assume the problem is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset PID without success. The car can start when the G28 is not plugged in and it runs perfectly when it is plugged in however it has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not sure what to do, i feel i have pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. I'm afraid i may have missed something. Let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find an extra in a wrecking shop or a parts store. Testing them is easy by putting your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that must know the position and speed of the crankshaft to make decisions about timing of the fuel injectors, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If either of these goes bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner which can lead to engine shutdown.

Some of the signs of a failed G28 sensor are an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox the gears are shifting faster than normal and/or a misfire when in gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you notice any of these signs. The good news is that they are very cheap and easy to find, especially in the case of an Bosch sensor, which is what we have. Alternately, GM's version this component is an excellent choice.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be the reason behind numerous problems in your car. It's an essential component of the transmission of your audi remote Key, as it transmits information to the ECU regarding how fast or slowly the car's engine is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other car components to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It transmits signals via gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this signal to regulate fuel and boost, and also timig. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can check key for audi sensor failure by checking continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. There should be an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these points. This is the same across the audi advance key 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 Du So, you may find some good ones in wrecking yards.happy-smiling-woman-with-car-key-driving-2022-11-17-00-15-14-utc-min-scaled.jpg
